Humor of the Day – Sexuality in Star Wars. Part 2 of 2.

I will start with something silly and slightly off topic because it made me laugh:

Some of you commented on how Leia’s “Return of the Jedi” costume was sexy.  You are evidently not alone in that persuasion.  And there are several women who have thought about these things a lot more than me, and who chose to go to public conventions dressed like Leia:

A girl’s gotta eat:

A side note:  They originally shot a ‘cafeteria’ scene in Jabba’s Palace, but it was left on the cutting room floor.

So that you don’t think she is alone in her fascination, here are a few more Princess Leias (Editorial note:  There are pictures of Leia impersonators who simply painted her costume on and attended conventions, but I chose not to show those):

And like Mudd’s Women, sometimes Leias come in multiples:

And then there’s a whole bunch of “Mr. Lucas, did you really have that in mind when you wrote the first movie?” moments that I’m afraid no amount of therapy can undo in our collective cultural memory:

And I’ll close this silly post with some beautiful and loving images that I will treasure always:

Very nice. Thanks for the plug.

I see a resemblance between this sexy Star Wars costume and the outfit Ria Rasmussen has removed by Rebecca Romijn-Stamos in the beginning of the movie Femme Faale to the music of Bolero. I think its a wonderfully edited scene.

That last one is heart-warming. All those Leias in one picture freaked me out. Attack of the Leia Clones!

bruce, I saw the resemblace also to the jeweled costume in Femme Fatale. And yes it is a well edited scene – to the theme of Bolero.

i am still somewhat… frustrated by how things have changed. Things that used to be socially uncool have developed into social norms. Conventions weren’t like that when i attended them, years ago. The only sexy people were the actors who were invited to attend.

Just like computers… i was a geek and a nerd. It was a bad thing. Now it’s “retro” and sexy.

Now we have “hard core fans” in any social group. Even “the cool sexy people.” Like the photos of the Leia fans, there are some fantastic Leeloo (of the Fifth Element) costumes at shows, worn by stunningly beautiful women…

i just keep wondering why, when and how did “the beautiful people” stop ridiculing the things i liked and start enjoying, playing with them, themselves…

What’s to stop me from taking up the new stage and going back to convention attendance and computer tech work with the new glory of nerd-turned-cool?

i remember, too well, just how socially excluded i was the first time round… How lonely and alienating the crowd was… It feels like a lie to just allow it to be cool and great social networking now.

in fact, i forgot to add… i was ashamed of my fellow fans and their shameless self focus and social backwards behavior (yes, they made even ME feel alienated!) and ashamed of my computer technical support co-workers who would bash “the stupid users” after smiling at them two minutes prior.

Both groups were so exclusive and arrogant in their own little domains. It’s the classic tale of “bullied becomes bully” in the computer technical world.
