Something you may not have noticed when looking at all the women painted above: Arguably, they all have a very similar, if not the same, face . . . with different hairdos. I don’t know if that was intended or not.

Similar face from pic to pic? Yup. As intended. The faces are all based around that of the artist’s wife, Rachel Feinstein, an artist herself. For a pic of her, check out http://www.newyorker.com/online/2008/01/28/slideshow_080128_currin?slide=6#showHeader
I am an impressionist artist of many years by no means famous…..however proud of my quality as a painterwith no tool except the brush…..Your wife is much prettier to me than you have made her. I’m not sure if that ws not intentional….no way to prove how we see things. I like your work and was not on to it until the article in the new yorker. I to only paint with a brush….no photo on canvas or penciling in all free brush strokes. ..lizeden@esedona.net
they are not based on his wife. In “honeymoon nude” at least the face is one based on his own. all the faces similar to that one are – some of them are based on his wife, certainly the laughing blonde woman with a stripy dress on is. This is all on the tate modern website if you want more information.
Hi, firstly I would just like to say how refreshing I find his work. I was just wondering if there were any books of his work that did not show the sexually explicit images. I teach painting at a catholic secondary school and would love to use him as an artist model. Any recommendations?

OneMoreOption: Hi Bridget. I don’t have any recommendations. Currin’s work, since this original post, has become even more sexually explicit (to the point that I can’t post his newer works on this blog without fear of being further censored by WordPress).
But you are correct, the visual texture quality of his surfaces are remarkable, and his painting style is something to aspire toward.
Thank you for your kind feedback and inquiry. Best wishes on your continued teaching.
