This is the 6th edition of “Things That Could Not Be Improved,” a grouping of things that need not be, or could not be, improved. I’m not a proponent of perfection, but I love seeing well conceived and well crafted artworks:

Rumi
My friends went to a Rumi seminar recently while I stayed home to take care of other important duties. One of the main speakers was Coleman Barks.
Someone sent these 2 Rumi poems to me:
One day
You will take my heart completely
and make it more fiery than
a dragon.
Your eyelashes will write on my heart
the poem
that could never come from the pen
of a poet.
and
In your light I learn how to love.
In your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest,
where no one sees you,
but sometimes I do,
and that sight becomes this art.

Building a Better Mousetrap: The ATOMDesign S2 Split-Head Hammer
I learned about this hammer from reading ID Design’s magazine yearly awards for design.
http://www.idonline.com/features/feature.asp?id=1598
For starters, the hammer head spreads the force of the hit to a wider area along the top of the hammer. Then “shock gaskets” sit between the modular heads and the wooden handle to dampen vibrations during a strike. The dual carbon-steel heads are, switch-out-able, replaceable, and customizable for different hammer-head types.
The heads also have long chins, or “overstrike plates,” to reduce the damage caused by missing a nail. The long ergonomic shaft translates into more powerful strikes. And the curvature along the top of the hammer offers increased leverage for removing bent nails.
I unfortunately could not find a great image of the hammer, but if you look closely, there is a grooved notch in the top of the front head — a magnetic nail holder. This saves thumbs and fingers potentially on the off hand. And this frees up the nail-holding hand for holding a board (and it’s the only framing hammer on the market that will hold a two-headed duplex nail).
The hammer is an incredible design, using many innovative TRIZ principles.

As you might imagine, I spend a lot of time searching for quality images. Along the way, I have the fortuitous pleasure of encountering some visual gems that I was in no way looking for. Nevertheless, I save them because they make me happy or they make me laugh. Here are a few of those images:

A note to readers:
I added a “Leaves of Grass” Wikipedia link to the Bellocq post from a few days ago, in case anyone wanted to know more about that famous book that I referred to and its analogous history. Also, linked here is a review I wrote about a recent edition of Leaves of Grass.

I notice you have my computer visualization of Dome of a Home on your website. Jonathan and I worked together on that project. He did the conceptual design; I did the working drawings, etc. Hope you will insert a link to my website below the image. Thanks!
