Seeking One More Light
“Seeking One More Light”
When parents don’t agree with their childrens’ behaviors . . .
Some parents punish their children by putting them into a dark room
Some parents do it literally, turning off the lights and locking the doors
Others do it by giving the silent treatment and cutting off communication with their child
Others do it by taking away all contact with others
Others do it by cutting off access to the internet, other media, and reading materials
It is “for the good of the child”
To teach the child patterns of guilt
To teach the child what it feels like to be removed from positive stimulus
To teach the child that there are consequences for not following directives
Some children rebel by seeking and sharing new sources of light
Children generally want lights
They want new sources of ideas, and energetic feedback patterns
Children grow and thrive in the lights
Today, have your actions or inactions brought more lights to others?
Or have you cut others off from the sources of light that feed their minds and their good efforts?

I am grateful to so many people, who have from time to time, had the strength, education, and stamina to share their lights. Sharing light has never been easy.

Dear Sia:
We were all of us once, and really, still are children.
Your comments remind me of a wonderful song from my list of favorites, “Dance with Life (Brilliant Light),” performed by Bryan Ferry on the 1996 soundtrack for the movie “Phenomenon.”
I’m not a Bryan Ferry fan, but I loved this song when I first heard it. Only recently did I discover why – that it was actually written by Martin Page and the great Bernie Taupin (who created so many magnificent songs when he worked with Elton John):
“I was thinking out loud
One life’s such a short time for love
When a match made in heaven arrives
Eternity is never enough
It’s all been so simple ’til now
There’s no brilliance like beauty out there
No knowledge as wise as the heart
We all need reason to care
I need to dance with life
Sweep you away into the night
When there is no one else around
I will make every day count
We need to dance with life
Swim in the soul of your eyes
’til we melt into the night
We need to dance with life
And we leave a brilliant light behind
We could lay on the ground
We could look at that light in the sky
Show the moon and the million stars
The stars that we become when we die
I need to dance with life
Sweep you away into the night
When there is no one else around
I will make every day count
We need to dance with life
Swim in the soul of your eyes
’til we melt into the night
We need to dance with life
And we leave a brilliant light behind
It’s no secret how I feel
This flesh and bone I love you is sealed
To cover me up and hide the deal
And the deal with me
To dance with life
Breathe the sweet fresh air
And make every second your last
And I’ll touch you from the world I wake in
Make the most of the present and the past
I need to dance with life
Sweep you away into the night
When there is no one else around
I will make every day count
We need to dance with life
Swim in the soul of your eyes
’til we melt into the night
We need to dance with life
And we leave a brilliant light behind
SIA: Thank you so much for sharing that song. I am not familiar with it and I would really enjoy hearing it.
