I wrote the following on 43things today:
Many photographers take a picture, and the picture says, “This was an amazing thing I saw, and I was able to record it beautifully.”
More rare are photographers who consistently are able to show they were able to do the above and they understood what was going on and were able to convey accurate sensory, historical, cultural, and intellectual knowledge to others.
Snowdon does something even more. Without removing his models’ clothes, he reveals them intimately. If Snowdon was in a room taking pictures, I almost think it would be more appropriate for him to ask everyone’s permission to take their photos. Because if he captures you in his lens, he is likely going to reveal something uncommonly known and intimate about you.
