Intimate Portraiture
The above artwork is by Jason Levesque . I’m posting it because it’s playful, pleasant – capturing the spirit of the models and the artist.
I’m doing fine.
I wrote a review on Amazon recently, praising the US release of the book Biting Anorexia.
I made the following comment on one of my favorite photographer’s postings on Flickr:
“An implied question for the viewer when looking at an image is:
Do I wish I was seeing this from this point of view?
Because of this, I tend to have a personal preference for portraiture that is from eye level or below. I don’t wish to be in a position where I’m looking down at someone, where they must look up to me.
This is not to say that great portraits cannot come from higher points of view, but you may find many of your favorite portraits are from eye level, from a level of equal standing.”
I don’t know why cultural interests wax and wane. I don’t know why some old posts come back into prominence. But the world was interested this week in an old couple who had the audacity to take intimate nude pictures back in an era when nude pictures were scandalous. 8,247 people stopped by yesterday, many to learn more about Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz. I hope they found some of what they were searching for.
And as a reminder that the world of photography is still alive and kicking, here are some recent photographs I was lucky to view:

Well, I was one of the 8,247
. I stumbled upon the nymag text and slide show about Georgia O’Keeffe’s retrospective exhibition. Text is titled “The Whitney’s welcome retrospective rescues Georgia O’Keeffe from sex and flowers”. I needed a little more info on what was she exactly rescued from. And were they REALLY the first ones to come to the rescue?
I did not search the entire web.
I came here.
And I definitely found what I was looking for.
